Kent Literacy Award Winners!

We are so very proud to announce that we have received the Kent Literacy Award for Best Home School Literacy Initiative!

During the COVID-19 lockdown from March 2020, we were committed to ensuring all of our pupils remained engaged with reading. As a school we collectively:

  • Planned and resourced daily reading for all year groups;
  • Made up and delivered book parcels to our families and the Heart of Kent Hospice;
  • Welcomed our very own Book Fairy who hid book packs around our village to enthuse, excite and engage our whole community with reading while out on our daily exercise;
  • Recorded videos of us reading so that they could be enjoyed at home to enable a daily story to be heard.

Our recorded videos were so popular, in total we reached an incredible audience of 16,664 viewers!

We will be joining the live screening of the Kent Literacy Virtual Awards in December to be part of the award ceremony.

In the meantime, if you would like to re-watch some of our recorded stories, please click on this link: https://www.aylesford.viat.org.uk/2547/story-time
