House System

At Valley Invicta Primary School at Aylesford, our House system plays an important role in building a strong sense of community, teamwork and belonging across the school.

Every pupil belongs to one of four Houses, which bring together children from Reception to Year 6. This allows pupils of different ages to work together, support one another and develop a strong sense of identity and pride within their House. Siblings are placed in the same House wherever possible, helping families feel connected to the wider school community.

Our Houses are named in recognition of our close relationship with the Royal British Legion Industries village in Aylesford. The names celebrate the community and the important work carried out by RBLI in supporting veterans and their families.

Our four Houses are:

  • Appleton
  • Mountbatten
  • Gavin Astor
  • Preston

House Community

The House system provides regular opportunities for pupils to come together and take part in shared activities that promote teamwork, school pride and a sense of belonging.

Pupils meet in their Houses for a range of activities throughout the year, including:

  • practising and performing House chants
  • taking part in team challenges and competitions
  • celebrating achievements together
  • supporting whole-school events, such as Sports Day

These experiences help pupils build positive relationships with peers across different year groups and encourage collaboration, confidence and school spirit.

House Points

House points are awarded to recognise pupils who demonstrate our school values in their everyday actions.

Our values are:

  • Respect
  • Resilience
  • Responsibility
  • Co-operation
  • Individuality

These values support pupils in developing the personal qualities needed to become confident, responsible and lifelong learners.

House points are collected each week and shared during our Celebration Assembly, where pupils come together to recognise achievements and celebrate the successes of each House. Parents are also able to follow the progress of the Houses through updates in the school newsletter.

At the end of each term, the House with the highest number of points is recognised and celebrated (with a non-uniform day for the winning House, where they can wear their colours with pride).

House Captains

Each House is led by two Year 6 House Captains, who are elected through a democratic process. Pupils who wish to become a House Captain present a speech to their House explaining why they would be a good representative before pupils vote for their preferred candidate.

House Captains play an important leadership role within the school. Their responsibilities include:

  • collecting and recording House points each week
  • supporting and encouraging their House members
  • helping to lead House activities and events
  • representing the school when welcoming visitors
  • supporting key events, such as Sports Day

Through these responsibilities, House Captains develop valuable leadership, communication and organisational skills.

Developing Leadership and Belonging

The House system supports pupils to develop a sense of pride in their school and an understanding of the importance of working together. It encourages pupils to celebrate one another’s achievements and recognise how their actions contribute positively to the wider school community.

By participating in the House system, pupils develop confidence, teamwork and leadership skills while strengthening their sense of belonging at Valley Invicta Primary School at Aylesford.
