Computing
All pupils at Valley Invicta Primary School at Aylesford have the right to have rich, deep learning experiences that balance all the aspects of Computing. With technology playing such a significant role in society today, we believe ‘Computational thinking’ is a skill children must be taught if they are to be able to participate effectively and safely in this digital world. A high-quality computing education equips pupils to use creativity to understand and change the world. Computing has deep links with mathematics, science, and design and technology, and provides insights into both natural and artificial systems.
At Valley Invicta Primary School at Aylesford, the core of computing is Computer Science in which pupils are introduced to a wide range of technology, including laptops, iPads and interactive whiteboards, allowing them to continually practise and improve the skills they learn. This ensures they become digitally literate so that they are able to express themselves and develop their ideas through information and computer technology– at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.
The intent of our Computing curriculum is to deliver a curriculum which is accessible to all and that will maximise the development of every child’s ability and academic achievement in this subject. The subject leader has identified key intentions for our computing curriculum. These are:

A clear and effective scheme of work that provides coverage in line with the National Curriculum.
Teaching and learning should facilitate progression across all key stages within the strands of digital literacy, information technology and computer science. Children will have the opportunity to explore and respond to key issues such as digital communication, cyberbullying, online safety, security, plagiarism and social media.
Access to resources which aid in the acquisition of skills and knowledge.
Children have access to the hardware (computers, tablets, programmable equipment) and software that they need to develop knowledge and skills of digital systems and their applications.
Access to quality first teaching within the strands of Digital Literacy, Information and Communication Technology and Computer Science. Computing is taught every week in every year group throughout the academic year. Teachers, through effective assessment, adapt provision to meet the individual needs within their class.
A learning environment that enriches, promotes and celebrates learning within the strands of Digital Literacy, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Computer Science.

Digital literacy and online safety will be the central focus of teaching at the beginning of every academic year. In addition, the school will celebrate Safer Internet Day in the spring term of the academic year.

Opportunities for the safe use of digital systems are considered in wider curriculum planning.
Displays
The importance of online safety is shown through displays within the learning environment.

As well as opportunities within the scheme of work, children will also spend time further exploring the key issues associated with online safety.
Impact
Children will be confident users of technology, able to use it to accomplish a wide variety of goals, both at home and in school.
Children will be able to show this in their work and in discussion.
Children will have a secure and comprehensive knowledge of the implications of technology and digital systems. This is important in a society where technologies and trends are rapidly evolving.
